New hours for area lakes In 2013, University Lake and the Cane Creek Reservoir will have a new schedule for boating, fishing, picnicking, sunbathing and other recreation.??The Cane Creek Reservoir will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.??University Lake will be open on Saturdays and Sundays for the same hours.In the 2010 through 2012 recreation seasons, University Lake was open Fridays through Sundays and the Cane Creek Reservoir was open on Saturdays. With the schedule change in 2013, both lakes will normally be open two days per week through mid-November. The OWASA Board will further evaluate the schedule later this year as part of an overall review OWASA?s lake program.Hoops at East Basketball The 17th annual ?Hoops at East? Summer Basketball Academy has announced dates for this summers? sessions. There are two sessions again this summer. The first session is July 8-12, and the second session follows July 22-26. Hoops at East is a full-day camp. Camp hours are 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.?Hoops at East? is a basketball camp open to rising third graders through rising ninth graders. Please leave you phone number and/or email.Tiger Soccer CampThe Chapel Hill High School Soccer Camp has been scheduled for July 29-Aug. 2 this summer, featuring a single session for bys and girls, rising to grades 7 through 12. The camp will meet 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each day at CHHS, led by Tiger men?s and women?s head coach Ron Benson, assistants Davis Boyle, Jason Curtis and Kevin Schoden, plus current and former college players.The camp is designed for those wishing to get in shape for their school or select teams. Players will be placed into appropriate groups for training, and they can expect light weight training, running a timed mile, plus intense small-sided and full-field games. A pre-season physical is recommended.Benson has coached soccer for more than 30 years, was named U.S. Southeastern Regional Coach of the Year in 2000, N.C. Men?s Coach of the Year in 2000 and N.C. Coaches should be able to organize team practices, teach fundamental skills and proper sportsmanship, provide an enjoyable atmosphere at games, and they must be able to communicate effectively with players, parents and Recreation Department staff.The deadline to apply is April 17. To receive a Carrboro volunteer coach?s application or additional information, please contact the Recreation Department at 919-918-7364.The Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Department is still looking for a few more volunteer coaches for youth baseball and softball teams for ages 7-12.
